The hard-working wrestling crew went into their match against St. Mark's and St. Paul's the clear underdog. At the half-way point in the first match against St. Paul's however, they were, as one observer stated, "not intimidated."
Middlesex versus St. Paul's
The Middlesex wrestlers had pinned their way to a 25-6 lead going into the second half of the line-up. With Thad P. '13, engineering a win at 170lbs to start the match and the momentum was palpable. Next George M. '15 would secure another victory at 182lbs with good position and speed over his opponent. Robert Z. '13 continued his remarkable season at 195lbs with a quick :37 second pin.At 220lbs, Steven Z. had excellent balance and an explosion of power to secure a 16-7 victory that rattled the opponents confidence.
After giving up a forfeit at Heavy Weight, the beginning of the line-up began with a great match for Khoa P. '16. His overall movement and progress has been something to behold as he has developed quickly into a legitimate 106lbs wrestler. His score of 10-3, and the forfeit in favor of Hunt H. '13 made the score 25-6 and the entire bench of Middlesex rose in excitement.
However, the depth in the middle of the strong St. Paul's line-up, would enable them to secure six matches, including forfeits to finish off the duel meet 45- 25.
Middlesex versus St. Mark's
The second match against St. Mark's showed how far the young team has progressed since November.
Pins made by George M. '15, Steve Z. '15, Gabe S. '15, Jordan P. '14 all helped in the victory over the Lions. Although the team was still recovering from the close match with St. Paul's, they were absolutely determined to pull off the victory.
It was great to see Jordan P. '14 put together a combination of moves to end the match with a first period pin.
