The Middlesex wrestling team made the short but heavy-traffic trip to Needham, MA to take on league opponent St. Sebastians as well as Concord Academy on Friday, December 13.
Captain Tae Hwan '14 was unable to make the trip and freshman Marcus '17 stepped up into the varsity roll with great energy and enthusiasm at 132 lbs. His positive effort and fantastic determination led the coaches to predict good things in the future for Marcus and his contributions to the team.
The Zebras took on Concord Academy first and fell in a very close match 33-39.Wins were notched by Gavin '16, Nick '16, George '15, and Jivan '16- all of whom wrestled with great agility and skill. Alex '15 and Steven '15 added forfeits but the final score slipped away as the team forfeited 24 points.
In the league match versus St. Sebastians the match ended in a 30-30 tie.
The larger all boys school is usually a tough match-up in the early season for Middlesex, but they showed tremendous spirit to match the forfeits and come up with some great wins.Gavin '16 and Gabe '15 were standouts for the team-they both put forth a great effort in their matches.
League rules settles tie matches with "tie breaking rules." The "matches wrestled" rule went to Sebastians and the resulting point was added to their score after the match.
And although Middlesex fell just short of a victory, the team is heading in the right direction!
