The Zebras and Dragons battled it out on Saturday afternoon for their final games of the 2013 fall season. With both sides pursuing a league win, the backdrop was set for a typical rivalry.
For most of the first half, both teams shared possession and opportunities, but the Dragons scored first with a well-place shot to the lower left corner. However, a short while later, they netted another one on a defensive breakdown to go into the half up by two goals.Â
During halftime, the Zebras recovered their focus and came out flying, determined to settle the ball and execute its team oriented system. Middlesex scored their first goal after Shannon's '16 gutted out a rebound into the Dragon's net. The play continued to go back andforth, but Middlesex tied it up again when Shannon '16 struck a well-place lefty shot into the upper corner to even the score. However, the Dragons proved relentless and scored their third on a misplayed ball in the box to reclaim the lead.
Despite the Zebra offensive press and numerous opportunities the clock wound down and the final whistle blew. It was a disappointing loss for the Zebras, but they will look to build off of this season as they gear up for the fall of 2014.
