Girls' Cross Country Ends Regular Season on a High Note

10/28/2013 9:45:00 AM

The Middlesex girls' cross-country team had a great day for running against Governor's Academy and Brooks in front of the Parents' Weekend crowd.  Twenty-five Middlesex girls completed the race, and many posted best times and saw great improvements in the team's last regular-season race.

Mahal Alvarez-Bakcus lowered her own school record as she posted her fourth dual meet win this season (and sixth in her career, placing her fifth in the all-time list of Middlesex runners).  Seniors Nell Gallogly, Talya Kramer, and Rowena Schenck secured the win, earning places 3, 4, and 5, finishing ahead of the Brooks first runner (an exchange student who does not count in the team scoring).  Sophomore Phoebe Lindsay had a great race, finishing in 8th place and earning her first all-league points in the process.  She was helped throughout the course by teammates Susie Frechter (9th place) and Alex Schoen (13th place) who scored displacement points against Govs and Brooks.

The JV pack continued to impress coaches and fans, with particularly noteworthy runs coming from senior and pack leader Aditi Shankar (25th place), sophomores Raphaele Sevrain (17th place) and Madeline Wight (21st place), junior Jenni Welch (23rd place), and freshman Julia McClellan (20th place).  Sophomores Ericka Ekhator and Lexi Khoury also had breakthrough races, posting big improvements and helping their teammates in the process.

The team is looking forward to the ISL championships on Friday as the last race for many and the start of the championships season for all.
