The Middlesex boys' varsity basketball team saved their best defensive effort of the season for the 2nd half at Roxbury Latin on Wednesday, January 23.
A game that started with technical fouls on both teams for dunking during warmups still only resulted in a 27-21 halftime lead for RL. Middlesex took a lead midway through the first half and led 18-15 behind sophomore Ben Cheringtons consecutive 3-point field goals. After a Roxbury Latin timeout, they finished the half on a 12-3 run.
The early part of the 2nd half went back and forth before Aaron Swenson found Jon Siu on multiple possessions as Sui made his next five shots to give MX the lead. Siu would turn in 17 of his game high 24 points in the 2nd half. Meanwhile, MX stifled RL while changing defenses and held them to 13 2nd half points.
The senior combination of Alex Sadie, Jobeir Blake, and Nick Widen were significant factors in the defensive stand. Swenson finished with 17 points and eight assists to help pace Middlesex past their opponent.
