Girls' Varsity Cross Country Wins First Race of Season

9/23/2012 2:12:00 PM

In their first race of the season, the Middlesex girls' cross country team came up with two wins on their newly-redesigned home course over Lawrence and St. George's.  While the team definitely missed the reliable presence of Emily Stark at the front of the pack, they won as a team despite the impressive performance of Sasha Tory from St. George's, who led the field from start to finish.

Middlesex was led by our lead pack of Mahal Alvarez-Backus '15, Talya Kramer '14, and captain Madison Hetzner '13.  The trio worked together to finish 2nd, 3rd, and 5th in the race.  The varsity runners were further helped by Julia Donnell '14, Alex Schoen '15, Agustina Hobbs '13, and Miranda Gish '14, all of whom finished ahead of the 3rd place runner from Lawrence and the 4th place runner from St. George's.  25 runners from Middlesex finished the race, with many running their first 5K ever.

The team is excited to continue to improve on these performances in the coming weeks.
