The MX girls and boys track teams competed at Milton, the girls against Tabor and Milton, with Roxbury Latin added to the boys competition. Although the MX teams could not stay for the entire meet due to the evening prom, there were many fine performances.
The wins beginning with senior captain Emily 's 4:48.10 and Garrett's personal best (pr)of
4:08.3 in the 1500 meter run, the so-called metric mile, and ending with junior captain James's school record of 1:58.0 in the 800 meters. Both Emily and James ran times that qualify for the national high school ranking lists in their events.
For the girls, running with "It's a Boy!"ribbons in honor of our coach Desiree Sheff, wins were added by senior captain Elizabeth with an into-the-wind 17.3 pr in the high hurdles, followed in 2nd by Ellie. Angela, in her first try at shot put, won the event with 27'8", and Mahal won again, this time in the 400 meter with the fast time of 61.6, followed by Claire in 2nd. Isabelle equalled her high jump pr and school record of 5' 0" placing 2nd.
For the boys, Jobeir again won the 400 meters, his third event, in 52.6 and Ryan had a pr of 54.3 in 3rd place. Nick was a very close second in the 100 meters, running 11.4 into the wind. Alex was also a very close second while setting a new school record in the shot put of 44' 9", and Jobeir, Tyson, and Jin contributed to our score with places in the jumps. Peter with a pr of 4:17, and
Nick followed Garrett with 3rd and 4th places in the 1500 meters.
All was not a bed of roses of course: the wind hampered the paces of the distance runners, Jordan running 5th in his first 400, fell a foot shy of the line, and our 4 x 100 relay negated some fast legs by dropping the baton.
But the teams did well in the nine events they competed in and everyone is looking forward to the full seventeen events next week at Belmont Hill.
