The Middlesex Boys’ Crew Team had a good start to their season on Saturday with some hard fought races against Dexter. With a strong tailwind and sun shinning on the Concord River, the Paumgarten Boathouse was abuzz with activity, and the day ended with the top 3 Middlesex boats coming out victorious against Dexter.
In the first boat race, Dexter and Middlesex both had strong starts, and remained almost even for the first 300 meters. For the second 2/3rds of the race, Middlesex gradually gained seats, and eventually took open boat lengths on Dexter, coming across the line 18 seconds ahead.
The second boat race had the tightest finish of the day. After taking a sizable and early lead, Middlesex was challenged by a strong push by Dexter from the half-way point on, making for a tight 5 second margin with Middlesex coming across the line first.
Dexter took an assertive lead over Middlesex off the start in the third boat race, but approximately half way through the race, Middlesex starting to slowly take seats back, under-stroking Dexter through the last500m, to finish 11 seconds ahead.
In the last race of the day, the Dexter fourth boat took a high rating to get ahead by the 500-meter mark, and continued to move away from Middlesex all the way down the course.
Thank you to Dexter for a great day of racing.
