The boys’ varsity basketball squad faced a talented Brooks team on February 1st; the team from North Andover came to Middlesex with only one loss on the season in a game which ended in double overtime. Nevertheless, the Zebras’ strong defense held their opponents to only a 9 point lead at the half, 30-39. In fact, early in the second half, the Zebras were able to cut the lead down and seemed to be staging a comeback. The final score of 53-71 simply is not indicative of the back and forth nature of the game. Middlesex did an excellent job of running their plays and defending the ball but unfortunately their shots did not make it into the net today.
Tyson ’12 once again showed his prowess and experience on the court, leading the team with 18 points. The captain has played on varsity since his sophomore year and continues to improve his skills as a player and team leader. Newcomer Aaron ’14 at point guard had an impressive 10 points, most of which came from quick lay-ups on the open basket; using his seasoned instincts, he stole the ball 5 times and assisted his teammates 4 times. Michael ’12, a selfless teammate and leader was a force to be reckoned with on the court, putting up 4 points and snagging 4 rebounds. Also with 4 rebounds, Blair ’12 contributed 6 points for the team as well. Champion high jumper Blake ’13 used his superb jumping skills to score two 3-pointers for 6 points on the day.
The Middlesex boys fought hard until the end and look forward to facing Lawrence on the 3
rd and Thayer on the 8
th.
