Girls' Varsity Basketball Falls to Governors in Opening League Game

12/7/2012 1:23:00 PM

The girls' varsity basketball team had a great start to the season facing a formidable opponent in Governor’s Academy. Historically a strong program, the Bulldogs came on strong led by their senior forward who will be playing for Marist College next fall.  Senior captain Kassiani and freshman Ericka played an aggressive defense against the talented forward, and the Zebras came out ready to put on a fight.

Despite their efforts, Gov’s senior forward made 17 of the team’s 35 points in the first half.  With some great ball pressure from our sophomores, Kate, Kathryn, Natalie, and Claire, the Zebras were able to stir up Governor’s guards and create some turnovers.

Going into the second half, Middlesex never gave up the fight, playing until the final buzzer.
Senior captain Clare scored 7 of the Zebra’s 31 points. The team also had great contributions from Jenna ’15 and Kathryn ’15, each with 5 points.  In her first varsity game, freshman Ericka scored 4 points from the paint.
The Zebras will bring a lot of energy into their first home game against a feisty BB&N team on Friday at 6 pm.
