As the N’oreaster rolled into town, Middlesex braved the elements to challenge BB&N in our last home game of the season. Despite high winds, snow, and frigid temps, our spirits were high as we took the field.
For the entire first half, it was a battle for possession for each team. Both sides had a number of solid offensive chances but were unable to capitalize on any of the opportunities. So we regrouped at halftime for a quick discussion with the score 0-0.
For Middlesex, we focused on our off the ball movement and our need for better communication and marking in the back. As we stepped back onto the field for the second half, the snow had picked up and Middlesex found itself playing against the wind and snow with little visibility. We hung tough together, but BB&N scored when our goalie was blown off balance into the goal after making the initial save. Nonetheless, we continued to plug away to generate some offense, but BB&N capitalized on another defensive breakdown to go up 2-0.
The weather continued to deteriorate, but our determination did not. We created a number of really dangerous scoring chances in the box in the final third of the half. Irene DeMoulas ’14, Shannon Ryan ’16, Dakota Foster ’14, and Susie Frechter ’14 were all close to putting the ball away. As we pushed to become more offensive while the clock wound down, BB&N capitalized two more times on quick transitions and loose rebounds in our box.
Despite being down 4-0 with the wind and snow in our faces, we played hard until the last whistle and our team was buoyed with strong performances by Kathryn Regan ’14, Susie Frechter ’14, Hilary Giles ’13 in the midfield and defensive positions. We will once again brave the elements for Thursday’s practice and gear up to enjoy our final three days and final game together as a team.
We will travel to St. George’s to battle the dragons on Saturday. Go Zebras!
