Middlesex Upset by RL in Final Home Game of Season

11/3/2012 9:20:00 AM

Roxbury Latin spoiled the celebration for the final home match for seniors David Rengpraphun, Alex Sadie, Jon Sokolsky, and captain Philip Skayne.

After storming out of the gate for the first 12 minutes with solid pressure and possession, the Middlesex boys fell prey to the potent Latin attack as #11 beat a handful of markers on the dribble to find #12 for the finish and a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute.  Just four minutes later the advantage was doubled as the left back #4 floated a hit-and-hope speculative ball back into the box off of the clearance of a corner kick and into the top corner of the net from 40 yards. The 3-0 halftime advantage was gained when the Middlesex back line gave the ball away on the right side to be beaten on a counterattack.

The Middlesex boys fought hard over the first half hour of the second half and were rewarded with the next goal, as Philip Skayne took a throw in deep in Roxbury Latin’s defensive third, proceeded to beat two defenders on the dribble to serve junior Ben Franks who assisted by flicking the ball to a crashing Alex Sadie for the emphatic finish to cut the lead to 3-1.  Latin pressed hard with their potent starting attack to score twice in the final four minutes of the match as the Middlesex midfielders were caught up the field gambling to make it a one goal game.

Sophomore keeper Dan Carlson finished the busy day with 15 saves in the Middlesex net.
