On Wednesday, November 28 the boys' varsity basketball team took on a talent St. Sebastians squad to open up the 2012-2013 season. Middlesex led most of the 1st half before a St Sebs run put them ahead 32-28 at halftime. Junior co-captain John Siu had two 3-pointers and 9 points while senior Nick Widen playing in his first basketball game since sophomore year, contributed 6 points before the intermission.
St. Sebs lead for majority of the 2nd half. Middlesex continued to cut the lead with the help of junior co-captain Aaron Swensons who contributed 18 points. With the score tied at 49 and 2:57 remaining on the clock, Swenson scored 10 consecutive points. With MX leading 52-51 Swenson made the most remarkable shot of that stretch by hitting a 25 ft 3 pt shot with the shot clock expiring.
Seniors Jobeir Blake and Alex Sadie made significant contributions at each end of the floor. Sophomore Ben Cherington playing in his first varsity game also made some big plays down the stretch. Swenson finished with 29 points for the game and was followed by Siu who finished with 18 and Widen at 8.
