Nobles Blanks Middlesex, 2-0

11/2/2012 10:18:00 AM

The Middlesex boys’ varsity soccer team traveled to Nobles on Halloween and were tricked and not treated into conceding one goal in each half for a 2-0 defeat.

The hobbled MX First Team was without the services of senior Captain Philip Skayne and his ball-winning presence in the midfield was sorely missed.  Nobles struck first in the 32nd minute, as the MX midfield and backline allowed a punt to bounce in their half and instantly turn into a counterattack goal scoring chance for #22 who took the chance beautifully and ruthlessly to put the home side ahead.  The best scoring chance for MX came in the final minute of the first half, as senior Jon Sokolsky beat his man on the byline to chip a cross to an open junior Stevie Gleason whose side footed effort did not produce clean contact and was parried by the Nobles keeper. The rebound also created a dangerous scoring chance in the middle of the Nobles box, but the MX attackers were not able to punish the mistake.

Middlesex regrouped and pushed for an equalizer in the second half but fell short and were caught for a second goal with just six minutes remaining.  The Nobles keeper slipped and mishit the ball into his own half but somehow Nobles won the next two challenges and played a free runner from the middle who had time to take a first touch and seal the three points in the 84th minute.
