Exeter Edges Past Middlesex, 2-1

11/1/2012 2:35:00 PM

It was a long bus ride north, but Middlesex was determined to hit the ground running against Exeter.

It took us some time to find our rhythm on a soggy and uneven pitch, but eventually we started to build our attack and our momentum. With our new offensive focus, Irene DeMoulas ’14 was able to find the back of the net off of a well executed pass from Dakota Foster ’14 midway through the first half. The Zebras were on top 1-0. However, our lead was short lived when less than five minutes later Exeter capitalized on a corner kick rebound to even the game back up 1-1. Once again, Middlesex got back to work implementing our team oriented passing game to initiate our attack, but Exeter caught us off balance in our defensive zone and exploited the hole in our defense to go up 2-1.

Middlesex went into halftime down by one goal and we took some time to refocus on our objectives including tight marking, winning 50/50 balls, and transitioning quickly. We took the field again with these goals in mind. Middlesex battled for the second half and we had a number of scoring opportunities including some from Isabel Kreitler ’13 and Sophia Lichoulas’13 on defense, but we were unable to seal the deal.

Disappointed with the result, Middlesex refuses to back down and we look forward to our next challenge against BB&N in what will be our final home game as a team.
