Boys' Cross Country Triumphs Over Brooks, St. Pauls, Governors and Tabor

10/9/2012 9:19:00 PM

On Saturday October 8, 2012,  the Middlesex boys’ cross country team raced at Brooks against Brooks, Governors, St. Paul’s, and Tabor Academy. Both varsity and JV crushed the competition, leaving no doubt in the minds of spectators which team was victorious.

James Randon and Garrett O’Toole finished 1st and 2nd respectively, well in front of the competition. Peter Howe had a good race as well, coming in 3rd to guarantee the win for Middlesex. He, along with freshman runner Viraj Deokar, beat the packs of runners from St. Paul’s, Tabor, and Governors. Sophomore runners Lucas Estrada and Miles Petrie had admirable races, performing significantly better than they did last year at the same course. The rest of the varsity performed well as usual, showing the depth of the squad.

Middlesex also dominated the JV race. Max Rifkin won the race, Christian Papadellis took second place, Joe Paine came in third, and Jay Welsh finished forth to complete Middlesex’s triumph. Jordan Phinney, despite a tight calf muscle, finished twelfth overall in the race. Eric Dolce, Matt Mckenna, and Brian Byrne all had times at least 1:30 faster than they had run last year at Brooks. New runners Matt Kafker and Jack Yoon had times on Saturday that would have placed them in the top half of the ISL championship race at Brooks last year. Many new JV runners also had admirable times as they continue to steadily improve throughout the season.
