Girls' Varsity Cross Country Races Past Thayer in Home Opener

10/4/2012 9:32:00 AM

Mahal Alvarez-Backus led Middlesex to a victory over Thayer as she won her first cross country race today on a rain-soaked home course.  She bested her own school record on the course in the win.  The varsity effort was further aided by Talya Kramer, Madison Hetzner, Miranda Gish, Sonia Tremblay, Megan Fanning, and Alex Schoen.

In the JV scoring, Middlesex posted a perfect score-- a testament to the team's depth and success in pack running. 26 girls finished the course, and many girls posted improved times despite the soggy conditions.  Particularly notable improvements came from freshmen Phoebe Lindsay, sophomores Jenni Welch, Katherine Khoury and Amy Ding.  Welch took more than 5 minutes off her time from the last home race! The team is proud to be heading into this weekend's big meet at Brooks with a 4-1 record.
