It was a beautiful fall day for our season and home opener against the talented Pomfret Griffins. Right from the start, the momentum of the game swung back and forth as each team worked to gain and maintain possession.

Middlesex took control early on with several goal scoring opportunities from free position shots by senior captain Hilary Giles ‘13 as well as intelligent through balls by Dakota Foster ’14. Middlesex challenged the 50/50 balls and pressed aggressively against Pomfret’s skilled defense but were unable to come up with a goal in the first half.

In the second half, we came out determined to find the back of the net and again, had many great opportunities late in the half, but couldn’t come up with the goal. Pomfret was able to get a quick goal on a counter-attack and a well placed cross into the goalbox with 6 minutes left in the game. We rallied as a team to even the game, but the time ran out. Nonetheless, Middlesex showed tremendous resolve and heart in our first team game. We had stellar play by Sophie Vitzthum ’14 and  Susie Frechter ’14 in the midfield, Claire Megan ’14 and our young talent Shannon Ryan ’16 up top.

We are looking forward to traveling to Andover on Wednesday to take on the Big Blue!
