Boys' Cross Country Vs Nobles

Boys' Cross Country Races Past Nobles

10/23/2012 8:24:00 PM

On Saturday, Middlesex ran its final home race of the season against Nobles.  Once again, the red and white jerseys were victorious by a large margin.

In the varsity race, captain James Randon set the new course record (15:56), leaving runners such as Garrett O’Toole a good goal to shoot for next year. Right behind James, O’Toole finished second and posted the second fastest time on the course. Viraj Deokar and Peter Howe also had impressive showings, running the course more than one minute faster than they had the week before. Miles Petrie, however, was the star of the show; he beat his nemesis (and longtime friend), Nobles runner Justin Skelly, to allow Middlesex to take the top eight spots in the varsity race before any of the 12 Nobles runners finished. This win raises the varsity record to 12-0 record, putting the team on track to break last year’s record of (14-1). Only one more race remains, as BB&N, Rivers, and St. Sebastian’s will try to defeat Middlesex next week.

The JV team did equally well, as the "law firm" of Rifkin, Paine, Welch, and Padadellis captured the first four spots. Junior "partner" Jordan Phinney took 7th place. Eric Dolce also had a fine race, despite losing his lunch at the finish line. Jack Yoon and Derin Hotamisigil each ran the course about 30 seconds faster than they had the week before.
Inspired by Parents' Weekend, Middlesex fielded nearly its full complement of JV runners - 21 - its largest team ever. For a few runners, this was their first race.  One standout among the novices was Conrad Meier, who finished in 23:45, a remarkable time for a first-time runner.
