Wrestling Sweeps Weekend

1/9/2012 1:10:00 PM

After a win on Friday, the wrestling team returned home to convincingly win two matches on Saturday. Middlesex won 50 to Landmark's 30 in the first match and picked up the second victory over Lexington Christian by a score of 42-36.

The first match began with a packed house. The wrestling room was bulging at the seems with three teams and a crowd of parents and fans. Middlesex's Tae Hwan '14 started things off with a pin with less than a minute left in the match. Chase '13 worked his way toward a Major Decision 10-0. Jeff '12 also contributed a forfeit making the score 16-18.

The return of Jack P. '12 to 160 lb weight class was good to see as he pinned a very good opponent with thirteen seconds left in the first period.

Dan C. '12 continued his imrovement with a tiger-like mentality and a pin at 1:28 in the first.

George '15 continued to show excellent take down mastery with an early first period takedown. His opponent caught him off balance to win but the skill by the freshman was outstanding. With the score 28-30 at this point, the upper weights took the match over.

Gil '12 dominated with a tech fall 17-2, Nathan '12 had his quickest pin of the year at 37 seconds, and Fuchs "the Big Man" added a first period pin to seal the victory.

The final match of the day was the third win for the wrestlers over the weekend and capped off an impressive series of matches.

The highlights were many. Hunt H. '14 executed several moves that entertained the crowd and ended with a pin of his opponent half-way through the first period.

Jordan P. '14 had a breakout match for the sophomore. He scored more points in the first two periods than any previous match in his two-year career at Middlesex. Masterful take-downs and controlled near-falls brought his early scoring to a 12-2 margin. Although the match had a surprise roll into pin for the sophomore, his scoring ability was a shining highlight for the day.

Chase '13 wrestled the opponents best wrestler and previous New England qualifier and his three period effort was well battled.

Jeff M. '12 got the scoring started for the team with a fantastic 9-8 thriller. The match was tied 8-8 with 18 seconds remaining, and the senior pulled out the escape just before the buzzer to the excitement of the home crowd. Score 3-24.

At this point, the wave of wrestlers to hit the mat for the Middlesex Wrestlers was likened to a herd of bulls.   Victories by Nick '12, Jack '12. Dan C. '12, George '15, and Nathan '12 all added six points each for the team score and brought the total to a victorious conclusion.

Congratulations and a fantastic weekend for the team.   The Focus , Intensity, and Conditioning were obvious to the spectators and the team enjoyed a three match sweep on the weekend.
