Battling the emotions of a winless year thus far, Middlesex took court with Govs in attempt to get their first win of the year. The team focus was defense today as we wanted to give up 10 less points a game, not focus on scoring 10 more. Though the boys played much better defense in the first half, we gave up to many break away lay ups, didn't convert offensively, and found ourselves down 12 at half time, 24 - 12.
The second half was a much different affair. Govs remained in their 2-3 zone and team started to see the scoring opportunities available. Middlesex played much better defense in the second half and converted turnover opportunities. In the end, Middlesex pulled away and completed the 18 point turnaround winning the game 40 - 34. Though the offensive presence was noted, the real difference was the defensive intensity and pressure holding Govs to 10 points in the second half.
Big plays down the stretch were made by A. Sanogo draining a 21 foot three pointer, Michael Mac hitting a clutch floater, and Joe Frye knocking down two huge technical foul shots. Leading scorer for MX was V. Kolli with 12, followed by C. Lim and J. Frye chipping in with 8 points each.
