Late Game Goal Lifts Middlesex Over Brooks, 2-1

12/12/2011 10:16:00 AM

The Middlesex boys' Varsity hockey team defeated Brooks School 2-1 in the first Eberhart League match-up of the season. Senior Jonathan put Middlesex on the scoreboard in the first period at 4:36 when he drove to the net to pick up a rebound from a shot from the point made by Harrison to score his first goal of the season. Brooks had the only goal in the second period on a shot from the slot that tied the game at one at 12:16 of the period.

It was freshman Eric providing the deciding goal of the contest in the third period when he broke up a Brook's defenseman at his defensive blue line and took off on a breakaway. He was being heavily pursued by two Brooks players. Eric’s blast from 35 feet broke off the Brooks goalie's’ glove and made its way across the blue line at 1:54. The action was up and down the remainder of the game and Mike made some big saves (26) down the stretch to help preserve the victory.

Middlesex resumes play on Friday, December 16 at 5:00 PM in the first game of the 41st Annual Barber Tournament. They enter the tournament as the defending Champions of 2010.
