The MX girls' varsity CC team finished a superb season at Canterbury Ct.by winning a closely contested meet against 22 schools and 250 runners in the 67th year of NEPSTA'S C Division race.
With two steep hills totaling a climb of 240 feet --equivalent to running to the top of a 24 story building -- the all grass 3.1 mile Canterbury course is justly regarded as one of the most difficult in the New England region. Emily Stark became the first girl to ever break 19 minutes on this course, running her season's fifth course record in 18:49, a time that would have placed her in the upper quarter of the boy's varsity race. She was followed by Mahal Alvarez-Backus 9th and Emily Berntsen 11th who both earned All New England honors.
The MX team score was completed by Madison Hetzner 24th and Hanna Wiegers 25th, and the victory was sealed by Talya Kramer and Alex Schoen who scored against the 5th runner of the second place team. Co-captain Sophia Gish 1st, Katie Hampton 2nd, Katie Lee 3rd, Megan Fanning 5th, Miranda Gish 7th, Agustina Hobbs. 9th, and Emily Powers 17th won the JV race with a nearly perfect score.
This was the 18th victory of the MX girls in New England championship competition that began with entry in the 1987 B/C division race.
